Varsity vs Eastern Jr & Sr High School (8 - 11) Loss Peru Varsity Tigers fell to Eastern 11-8 on Friday. A single by Hullinger put Eastern on the board in the top of the first. Peru Varsity Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Rodriguez grounded out, and Evans laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run. Peru Varsity Tigers added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Rodriguez was struck by a pitch, and Evans walked, each scoring one run. Eastern jumped back into the lead in the top of the third inning after Peru Varsity Tigers committed an error, and Tarrh tripled down the right field line, each scoring two runs. Braley singled down the right field line, which helped Peru Varsity Tigers tie the game at five in the bottom of the third. In the top of the fourth, Eastern broke up the tie when Hurt tripled, scoring one run. Then a home run to right field by Tolle followed to extend the lead to 8-5. Hullinger earned the win for Eastern. The pitcher gave up four hits and three runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking five. Rodriguez took the loss for Peru Varsity Tigers. The right-handed pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking three. Boswell stepped on the mound first for Peru Varsity Tigers. The pitcher gave up three hits and three runs over two innings, striking out none and walking two. Foland stepped on the mound first for Eastern. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and four runs over one inning, striking out one and walking five. Rodriguez drove the middle of the lineup, leading Peru Varsity Tigers with three runs batted in. Braley set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Peru Varsity Tigers with two hits in four at bats. Peru Varsity Tigers had patience at the plate, tallying 11 walks for the game. Heyob, Musser, and Bellar led the team with two walks each. Braley and Bellar each stole multiple bases for Peru Varsity Tigers. Peru Varsity Tigers ran wild on the base paths, piling up six stolen bases for the game. Peru Varsity Tigers turned one double play in the game. Eastern tallied 10 hits in the game. Tolle led Eastern with four runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-4 on the day. Eastern were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
