Despite leading by as many as four runs, Peru Varsity Tigers fell to Manchester 9-8 on Monday. Peru Varsity Tigers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Musser hit a sacrifice fly, and Evans singled to center field, each scoring one run. Peru Varsity Tigers added three more runs in the top of the second inning on two hits. One run scored on another play, and Bellar homered to left field, scoring two runs. Manchester scored three runs in the bottom of the second on a home run to center field by Gaerte. Manchester took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Mugford doubled down the right field line, and Peru Varsity Tigers committed an error, each scoring one run. Bellar hit a sacrifice fly, which helped Peru Varsity Tigers tie the game at seven in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Manchester went back into the lead after Martin singled down the left field line, and Mugford grounded into a double play, each scoring one run. Musser hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the seventh for the Peru Varsity Tigers. Whitney started the game for Peru Varsity Tigers. The left-handed pitcher gave up nine hits and seven runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking five. Sturtsman began the game for Manchester. The starting pitcher gave up 10 hits and eight runs (seven earned) over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Peru Varsity Tigers collected 10 hits in the game. Bellar, Musser, Evans, and Braley each collected two hits for Peru Varsity Tigers. Bellar went 2-for-2 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Peru Varsity Tigers turned two double plays in the game. Manchester amassed 11 hits in the game. Gaerte, Mugford, Martin, Enyeart, and D’Andrea each collected two hits for Manchester. Gaerte led Manchester with three runs batted in. The center fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Sturtsman led Manchester with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Manchester turned one double play in the game. Peru Varsity Tigers welcome Wabash on Wednesday for their next game.
