Peru Junior High Cross Country Sweeps Pioneer Dual Meet The Peru Junior High boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both earned first-place team finishes over Pioneer on Thursday, September 10. The athletes competed on the challenging 1.9-mile course—the longest course they will run this season. Out of 14 boys, Kam Fuller led the field with a winning time of 11:29, improving his previous Pioneer course time by 23 seconds. Fifth grader Kade Fuller finished second in 11:47, followed by Aidyn McPhearson in third with a personal course-best time of 12:11—an improvement of 1:07. Hudson Ansari placed fourth in 13:11, while Ashton McPhearson battled to sixth place with a personal course best of 13:13, cutting 45 seconds from his previous time. Kaden Chamberlin finished seventh in 13:22, Avery Arnold eighth with a personal course best of 13:54—an impressive 2:09 improvement—and Skyler McPhearson 10th with a personal course best of 14:39. Jamison Jimenez placed 12th in 14:54, and Ian Stillings finished 13th with a personal course best of 18:12, improving by 48 seconds. In the girls’ race, Kailannie “KJ” Roush earned her first victory of the season with a personal course-best time of 14:58—an outstanding 2:34 improvement. Avery Sutton placed second in 15:23, followed by fifth grader Kamaria Ambrose in fourth at 16:12. Kianna Korving finished sixth in 19:13, fifth grader BrayLynn Unger placed seventh in 19:18, and fifth grader Prezley Floyd finished eighth in 19:40. Peru’s junior high team has been working with the elementary program to give fifth graders valuable experience for next season. Several fifth graders were invited to compete, and they delivered impressive performances, with each completing the team’s longest course of the season in a great time.
